When he turned to his mom for help, she offered the only thing she had: her own makeup. Like most guys, Andrew’s first reaction was, “You’re crazy.” He spent the afternoon scouring drug store aisles for a product designed for a man’s skin that could fix the problem without looking like he was wearing a mask. He found nothing. Eventually, he let his mom help. To his surprise, it worked. He went to prom with confidence, and a business idea was born.
Andrew didn’t just want to “sell makeup.” He wanted to engineer a solution for the modern man. While studying at the Ted Rogers School of Management (TMU), Andrew began laying the groundwork for Formen Inc.—the world’s first professional male cosmetic house.
His vision earned him a spot as an innovator at the Joe Fresh Centre for Fashion Innovation. His drive and market traction led his team to win their case competition, gaining the funding to prove that men’s skin needs—which are thicker and oilier than women’s—require unique, mattifying formulations that blend invisibly.
Our influence extends far beyond North America. In his early 20s, Andrew was invited to South Korea—the undisputed global capital of skincare innovation—he presented the Formen brand to the country’s highest-ranking manufacturers. Engaging with the architects of the “K-Beauty” revolution allowed Andrew to bring world-class standards back to the North American market years before they became mainstream.
This international perspective led to Formen being honored with the Trendsetter Award at Cosmoprof Bologna—the world’s largest and most influential beauty trade show. Competing against thousands of international brands, our “problem-solution” approach to male skin was recognized as a definitive global industry shift.
Formen is more than a retail brand; it is a recognized leader in Canadian innovation. Our commitment to solving complex grooming challenges earned us the support of the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE).
As a recipient of government-backed funding, Andrew worked alongside Canadian industry experts to bridge the gap between traditional cosmetics and male physiology. This partnership, combined with our residency at the Joe Fresh Centre, solidified Formen as a brand built on a foundation of institutional research and national support.
