Spring Clean Your Skincare Routine

Spring is like a second New Years. We look at what we’ve collected in the past year and make new resolutions and clean out old possessions. So what’s a better time to do that to our beauty and skincare products than now? It’s important to have a look and review our products to make sure we are using the best and freshest products for our skin. So here is how you can go about spring cleaning your skincare routine:

  1. Keep the essentials
Before you throw out everything, keep the products you’re currently using to the side. Your holy grail cleanser, toner, moisturizer, and spot treatments/serums should be the first things you pick from the pile to hold onto. But if you feel like your current products aren’t making the cut, check out our clinical skincare here.
  2.

  3. Check the expiry date
Yes, skincare and makeup has an expiry date. Depending on the brand and the products’ ingredients, skincare products can last anywhere from 6 months to 4 years. That’s a pretty large gap, I know. But here’s what you need to know. Pure and safe products will typically last 6 months to 2 years. That’s because the majority of botanically based skincare products and those from safer brands are formulated without parabens. Which leads me into my next point…
  4.

  5.  Check the ingredients
Are you using products that are safe for your skin and safe for your health? Parabens are a preservative that extend a product’s shelf life but are closely linked to breast cancer. 18/20 breast cancer cells contain parabens. Other ingredients you want to steer away from include pthalates, talc, mineral oil, and artificial fragrances and colors. You don’t want to be putting anything harmful on your skin as all that chemical exposure can build up and be absorbed through your pores. Use the app Think Dirty to scan your products and see what’s in them and if they’re toxic. A lot of the time we don’t know what all these science terms are so this app is a lifesaver (literally)!
